Plantar Warts or Verrucas; Spot the Difference!

There are over 200 serotypes of warts, so feel free to consult Hunt Footcare to identify and treat any that you might have. In some cases, what you may think are warts are actually another skin problem that we can manage and provide proper treatment for.

A wart is a hard, raised area on your skin, caused by a variety of viruses. The most common raised warts appear on your hands, elbows and knees, and are known as verruca vulgaris. However, what most people call a verruca is actually a different type of wart (a plantar wart) that appears on the soles of the feet. Verrucas are usually hard, flat and are rough to the touch. The reason verrucas are flat is that the weight of your body pushes them back into the sole of your foot.

Over the counter treatments for verrucas are available, but proper treatment by Hunt Footcare will treat the verruca you have, and prevent the spread of these infectious warts through your family or gym changing room! We may prescribe special medications for you to apply at home or we may perform surgery to eradicate your warts.

For expert help in removing warts, treating verrucas and preventing future infections, book an appointment at any of our footcare clinics in Stratford. Ingersoll, and London. We’re also an easy drive form other southwest Ontario towns including Brantford, Tillsonburg, St. Mary’s, Strathroy, Mitchel, Alymer, St. Thomas and Woodstock.
